2025-09-13: First Camp Night through Harvest Host

Hi, we just got back from a short weekend trip. It was only one night, but we enjoyed so much simple family time together.

Stay at Orchard Oasis Farm

This weekend, we towed our Airstream to Jonestown, PA. It was our first time using Harvest Hosts. If you’re a member, you can stay overnight at farms, wineries, and other unique places. It feels more like being a guest than just a camper.

We arrived at the farm on Saturday afternoon. As we pulled in, we were amazed by the view of the mountains, painted in soft purple and blue against the horizon.

When you stay with Harvest Hosts, it’s recommended to support the farm by buying something local. Their store was wonderful — full of fresh-picked apples, homemade apple dumplings (a local favorite), bread, dog treats, and more. The apple dumpling smelled so good that we couldn’t resist.

Activities

1. Hinkelfest

After a simple setup and a little rest, we drove to Hinkelfest at Fireman’s Park. This is a three-day community festival. It had craft booths, games, food trucks, local artisans selling jewelry and knitted goods, and of course, live music.

One tip if you go: bring lawn chairs. The performances were outdoors, and while a blanket works fine, a light chair makes the evening much more comfortable.

2. Cat show

The next morning, we went to a local cat show — something our younger daughter had been excited about all week. It was our first time at a cat show. We saw cats of all sizes and breeds, some we knew and many we didn’t. They were judged on their fur, posture, eyes, temperament, and more. Our kids loved it. For a first cat-show experience, it was perfect.

3. Hershey RV Show

The highlight we didn’t plan was visiting America’s Largest RV Show. We only learned about it from the farm owner, and we’re so glad we went.

The show is held every September at the Giant Center in Hershey, right next to Hersheypark. It was massive — thousands of RVs on display, from tiny campers to huge motorhomes. There were also booths from different manufacturers with free gifts and samples.

As RV lovers, this was like a dream. We walked through so many styles, got new ideas, and even met other people who share the same passion. It’s definitely the best place to experience RV life in one spot.

Next Trip

This was our very first night using Harvest Hosts. Even though the farm didn’t provide water or electricity, we learned how to save water and manage our dump better. It was a good lesson, and it showed us how little we really need.
It also saved us money, and the best part was having conversations with local farmers and exploring their store. It felt personal and welcoming.

We’ve already started planning our next Harvest Host trip. See you next week on the road! 🚐🍎🌄
