2025-08-17: Yogi-Bear-Campground

Hi, everyone! This week, we went to Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Campground in Maryland, close to West Virginia!

The campground had so many fun thing: a great water park that has huge slides, a splashy lazy river. There’s also jumping pillow, mini-golf and laser tag. The team organizes a lot of kids activities in the campsite. So we were never bored.

In the campsite, the nature is everywhere. We saw butterflies flying around and all kinds of funny little bugs. I like chasing them and counting how many different colors we can find.

Checking Out Antietam Battlefield

One day, we drove to Antietam National Battlefield, which is in Sharpsburg, Maryland. It’s a place where a really big battle happened a long time ago in 1862 during the Civil War. They say it was the bloodiest day ever in America, with tons of soldiers fighting. Today, it’s peaceful and green, with trails and monuments.

We visited the observation tower. It was built back in the 1890s. It’s made of local limestone, stands nearly sixty feet tall. You can climb all the way up to see the battlefield from way above . From the top, you can spin around 360° and feel the breeze on your face.

Right next to the tower is a special stone monument called the Irish Brigade Monument. It’s like a giant diary book made of stone and metal. It shows brave soldiers who fought here a long, long time ago during the Civil War.

But the most fun part? We listened for birds and tried to find them by their songs. And guess what—we discovered a new bird for us: the Blue Grosbeak! Its song was so pretty, like nature’s music.

Chilling by the Coal Center and the River

The next day, we went to the C&O Canal National Historic Park. A long time ago, the canal was used to move boats carrying coal and other goods. Now, instead of boats, we see families walking, kids soccer, people fishing along the calm canal.
